IT IS WORTH GOING TO THE THEATRE

IT IS WORTH GOING TO THE THEATRE

On February the 27th students of the first year of our Grammar School together with their teachers went to the Buffo Theatre to see a musical Romeo and Juliet directed by J. Józefowicz.

On that Friday night after entering the theatre the students most probably expected to see one of the typical boring spectacles. However, as soon as the curtain went up and they heard loud disco music, they guessed that something very exciting was going to happen. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was presented in a modern, brave way. The dialogues (adapted by B. Wierzbięta) resembled the contemporary language spoken by young people nowadays. This way the play sometimes turned from drama to comedy. Special effects, for instance natural rain created a real delight not only in small children but also the grown-up audience. The actress Małgorzata Duda-Kozera, who played the funny character of Juliet’s nanny also got great applause. However, the best thing about the musical was its music by J. Stokłosa, performed by the leading actors. The lyrics of songs Świetlista noc, Twych oczu blask, Sen (by J. Werner) were so moving that most of the audience were in tears.

During the two-hour spectacle the students experienced an incredible adventure. Although it was very late (9 o’clock p.m.) the students were leaving the theatre in a very good mood after having seen a fantastic show which they will probably never forget.
