 THE LITTLE PRINCE IN FRENCH

THE LITTLE PRINCE IN FRENCH

On 23rd March 2015 the students of Junior High School went on a trip to Buffo Theatre in Warsaw to see the performance of The Little Prince. It was not a traditional school reading scene but a colourful, 95-minute-long story of a little boy’s life presented to the audience in French.

Promptly at 7:40 the students, accompanied by Mrs Małgorzata Gumkowska-Murray and Mr Bartłomiej Tomczyk set off on a journey to the capital. The show started at 9 a. m. The play, directed by Tomasz Smoter, was a story of the Little Prince wandering on different planets. According to Sandra Borkowska (Form I A) the play presented the world as seen through the eyes of a child. The hero approached various matters with a grain of salt and did not worry about the problems of everyday life. It is worth noting that in addition to an interesting and instructive storyline (all the quotations known from the book were preserved in full), students had the opportunity to see a colourful, almost enchanted world of costumes and professional acting (four actors from the U.K. starred in the play) as well as listen to various songs by voice virtuosos.

The musical, as the students emphasise, was very interesting and the time passed in a fraction of a second. After having watched the play Natalia Szatan (Form I A) said that The Little Prince was very interesting. Many people because of the still insufficient knowledge of the French language had difficulty in understanding the whole text but they certainly followed the story closely due to fabulous acting. Thus, The Little Prince in French was certainly enjoyed by all of the Grammar School students.
