IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF JAN KOCHANOWSKI

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF JAN KOCHANOWSKI

On the 19th of June Form 1 students went on an educational school trip in the footsteps of Jan Kochanowski. The first highlight of the trip was seeing the Museum of Jan Kochanowski in Czarnolas. Although the current manor was built in 19th century in place of a larch one which had burned down, an original chair of Jan Kochanowski was saved from the flames. We could also admire different Renaissance artefacts placed in different rooms of the museum. In the well-maintained park a huge stone, where allegedly Master Kochanowski used to sit, aroused greatest interest. In spite of a quick shower all of us perched on it in order to write even better essays in Polish. Also, we were fascinated by an impressively huge rose flower-bed.

In Zwoleń, where Kochanowski is buried, we went down to the vault of the church. There is a sarcophagus with Kochanowski’s bones there, minus his skull, which had been lost somewhere in Ukraine! From Zwoleń we set off to Sycyna – a former noble estate of Kochanowski house, where in the fields of wheat we could see an obelisk made of Chęciny marble, founded by Adam Mickiewicz to commemorate the victory over the Turks near Chocim. But the top agenda proved to be lunch - we were already veeery hungry.
